1980 SC 28', hull #39, "ARCHANGEL": John B. Kinn

We purchased our boat in the fall of 2000. Since then we have refurbished/upgraded her continuously to bring her up to our standards. To date our improvements have matched her purchase price! However, we now have the boat we want in the condition that we want and we are set for many years of pleasurable cruising. Among other things she has been re-powered w/Yanmar YGM20F, has new sails, new upholstery and cabin lighting, a/c, power water at galley/vanity sinks, rigid holding tank, new VHF and GPS/Chartplotter, new canvas, dinghy, and outboard. New instruments will be installed over the upcoming winter, etc. We have found the boat to be an able and seakindly sailor with all of the necessary comforts for a couple. As she was a factory-completed boat her construction is solid. Her classic good looks bring a never- ending stream of compliments from those envious of our situation. We hope that our health holds out so that we may enjoy this wonderful smaller cruiser for many years to come! John B. Kinn

"Well, we may be biased but we think our SC39 sails beautifully. This opinion is based on the experiences we have had sailing many other boats before we bought SONSIE (SC39). She is responsive, stable, comfortable, and seaworthy. She handles heavy weather easily (we've sailed her in winds up to 50 knots) and we've never had her lee rail in the water. She tracks well, points well, and balances easily for self-steering. For a heavy displacement boat she moves right along in light airs. As you can tell, we are very pleased with her sailing qualities. --
