SC-35 - Are Feathering Propellors Good For SC Yachts?

After an extensive cruise of the coast of Maine this summer, and doing far more motoring than I wanted, I am considering fitting my SC-35 with a feathering 3 blade propellor.   Before making this investment, I wonder if any SCOA members have real-life experience with these devices.  User comments (favorable & not) on the use, and type (like: MAX-PROP & AUTOPROP) of FEATHERING PROPELLORS on any Southern Cross yacht, but particularly on the SC-35 with its Universal 30 engine, would be appreciated.   Thanks.  wkentc@erols.com SC-35 QESTE, Annapolis, MD

SC-28 or SC31 - Bronze material to make a shaft

As you know I sold Curlew and puchased a Tyana 37. I discovered some stuff that I will not be able to use that an SC 31 owner might need.
I have 2  36 inch long pieces of 7/8 bronze material to make a shaft for a 28
or 31. I would like to sell them at $25 each. I  had purchased a 12 foot piece and made 2 shafts for Curlew ( a replacement and a spare). So I know they work. I used the shaft I took out for a pattern. Andy Thibeault at andy381635@aol.com

SC31 - Questions about SSB installation
We're relatively new members who have a SC31 (Gilmer, actually) down in Tennessee and are getting ready to head South this fall after the hurricane season. We have some questions about SSB installation. We'd like to pick up the ballast in the keel for counterpoise.
- Is the ballast SOLID lead (as opposed to poured shot or something like that)?
- Where can we tap into the ballast? (From the diagrams on the web site and plans we have, it's hard to tell how far forward the ballast goes. If we drill down just forward of the salon bulkhead, will we hit it?)
We'd appreciate any information you have on this topic and/or any advice from other members on this type of installation.
I have another question while we are at it. We have the boat out of the water and are re-bedding the thru-hulls. We are digging out the coring and filling in around the holes with epoxy around to strenghten and waterproof the thru-hulls. While digging out one of them, we were suprised to find a place where the coring is balsa instead of Airex. Is there anything out there that shows where balsa is located in the hull? Also, is there any reason we should be aware of as to why balsa was used in some locations?
Thank you in advance for trying to answer our qustions. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

SC31 - Need info on equipment for southern coastal cruising

We are beginning preparations for outfitting for southern coastal crusing and need advice on equipment that really works.  Looking to install a/c, refrigeration and autohelm.   We would appreciate recommendations, suggestions, even products to stay away from.   Where are the best locations for compressors etc.
A/C- Portable or permanent? Least problematic?
Refrigeration - Prefer to convert existing icebox.  Positives, downsides? Most reliable and efficient system?  Seawater cooled or air?  Anyone familiar with Isotherm's Self-Pumping system?
Autohelm - Given the SC31's light tiller touch, length and displacement, which units seem to be the most efficient.
Also, current batteries (2) sit end to end in front of engine.  Where is the best location when a larger house bank is needed.
Thanks for any advice and/or suggestions.

If you need info on SC39
am a member and saw your help wanted web rep for SC-39. I have owned and worked extensively on a SC-39 since 1992. I would be willing to take a stab at any questions about this boat. Bill Sellar wsellar@brco.com

Needed -  Info on SC28
I have a SC28 which has the starboard settee that pulls out to make a double berth. When I got the boat this had been hinged to the back of the settee but it will only lift up about 30 degrees before it hits the table folded up against the bulkhead. Is there a better way of dealing with this?
Also, are there any ideas about how to get better access to the area under the cockpit. The way it is now it appears to be inaccessible, unless the engine is pulled out.

Looking to trade

Aloha, I have 1 1/1 acres of lush, arable land on the Big Island of Hawaii which I would be interested in trading for a Southern Cross 31ft. or larger.
